How it all began

Our Selsinger Hof can look back on a long history. Find out how it all began, how a Schützenhof became the Selsinger Hof and what dreams, wishes and goals lie behind it in the following lines.

Once upon a time…

It all began with the dream of a little girl who could see the then still-named “Schützenhof” from her window and had the dream of taking it over one day. These dreams became reality when she trained as a hotel manageress in Kleinwalsertal in Austria and then went on to study hotel management in Hamburg. With Holger, who had already gained experience in gastronomy through his circle of friends, I – “the little girl” – Katrin Gehrmann – found support for my future plans. Because with a trained carpenter, who had been employed by a restaurant fitter, among others, we were able to tackle various renovation measures with a lot of self-direction.

When dreams become reality

Before Mr. Karl-Georg Wahlen took over on 01.07.1997, the hotel area was expanded to 11 rooms. At the same time, the dining room and the sanitary facilities for the dining room and hall were renovated. The first “terrace” with two small tables in front of the main entrance was also built. The kitchen was completely renovated just a few years later. The passageway from the dining room to the bowling alley was relocated – a large cold store and freezer as well as modern, technical kitchen units were built there. The dishwashing kitchen was relocated.

At the same time, the hall was also given a new look: the champagne bar was repainted, the bar renewed, the hall walls and the Bördezimmer painted a light color and the pillars clad with beech wood. During this time, our staff grew from one part-time employee to three full-time employees. Gradually, the other rooms were also renovated. Our bowling alley guests were able to enjoy a new carpet and paint, the terrace in front of the house was enlarged, the furniture in the Ratstube was renewed and the ceiling in the Bürgerstube was renewed and the chairs were reupholstered.

In 2007 – in the course of our 10th anniversary – we changed our image. After a long period of searching, we had found our concept First of all, we changed our name from “Schützenhof” to “Selsinger Hof”. In addition, the outdoor catering area was expanded from 20 to 60 seats to the current terrace size and with the 12-meter umbrella from Austria as a further highlight. In 2008 came the decisive step in the concept, which is still going strong today. The installation of the brewery – and again from an Austrian manufacturer. You can see that we have grown very fond of Austria. That’s why our focus for our guests is on good, German cuisine – with a Bavarian/Austrian influence.

It goes on and on

Like many other colleagues in our industry, the coronavirus years have been difficult for us. Nobody knew how or even if things would continue. During this time, the “Kutscherstübchen” was created – an extension to our “Kutscherstube” restaurant. This allowed Holger to make good use of the standstill phase. Now that the crisis is over, we are optimistic about the future. Things are slowly picking up again and we are looking to the future with confidence. In 2022, we have already renovated the rear parking lot and the roof. In addition, our rear garden terrace has been prepared for event receptions.

In 2023, we also invested in a modern pellet heating system due to legal requirements. And plans are already underway for an 8-room hotel extension in 2024.

We say thank you

After all these years and experiences, we would like to thank our employees for their continued support and loyalty during these uncertain and difficult times. And of course we would also like to say a big thank you to our dear guests, who have also given us great support time and again.

With this in mind, we look forward to continuing to provide you with many wonderful moments and hours in our hotel and say

Moin
